Research Starting an Online Crafts Business

Posted by Cristina Barnes on September 27, 2011 at 9:30 AM

Hello All. Thank you for stopping by. I know I've been MIA (Missing in action) lately but I have been super busy trying to feed myself with all the possible knowledge on making Affordable Wonders a profitable business.

A little about me. When I started Affordable Wonders it was more of a fun project to help support my craft needs. I also needed new homes for all of my projects. Well life threw us a curve ball and suddenly I needed Affordable Wonders to help put food on the table. My husband and I are both on fixed incomes we are both retired from the US Army. I was medically retired due to Breaking my Neck on a Jump and then being sent to a Butcher that further destroyed my neck. I am on so many medications that I can't hold down a regular Job. My husband is going to school in SC trying to learn a new field. He's only home on the weekends so needless to say I run the house 3 kids and trying it make my business succeed. At least until he graduates we only have our retirement checks. Which was just enough up until they changed the way that his distribute his college fund. So when that happened we got caught off guard I didn't want him to quit school so I had to hustle to make MONEY! The problem is that I know next to nothing on how to run a business and how to network and use the social networking sites. I mean How do I get potential customers to even know that I exhist!?! I haven't been to college or studied anything in the business world. So I was at a severe disadvantage. But I know I am not the only one. So this post along with more segments that I will be posting will hopefully help you take your business in the right and profitable Direction.

So in my search I've educated myself on Etsy which is where the majority of my sales come from. How to use social media, which is the best way to connect with your customers. Marketing how to's. Where to sell your crafts and much more. I hope you enjoy the series of blog posts and feel free to comment and share any advice that you may have.
